September’s Elastro Series focuses on the wide umbrella of how a cello can be utilized in sound-making. We welcome NYC-based artist Alice Gerlach’s alice does computer music project, exploring avant-pop songwriting, ambient, and noise. We’ll then have two Elastic regulars play sets with Lia Kohl being joined by Melkbelly drummer James Wetzel in a new project called Deluxe Delight. The prolific Dorothy Carlos will open the night with a solo set of electronics/cello. Come by and celebrate the cello with us!

The August Elastro Series welcomes DC-based Matthew Byars’ project Attorneys General. Byars will bring together artists into an ensemble where they will make sounds which are then filtered through Byars’ rig. He live mixes, loops, distorts, and mangles into a sometimes beautiful, sometimes cacophonous sound. On this occassion he brings together Tim Kinsella (Joan of Arc), Jenny Pulse (Spa Moans), Whitney Johnson (Matchess), and Haley Fohr (Circuit des Yeux). Opening the night is Elastic regular, but first time on our stage, Joel Berk’s ragenap project. This will be a great way to kick off August. Join us!

The Elastro Series is pleased to welcome NYC artist Abbie from Mars to headline their June event. Their work incorporates tap dancing, electronics via Max MSP, and highly physical performances. Don’t miss this first-time Chicago visit! We’ll also be treated to a set from sometimes-Chicago resident Aram Shelton’s Tonal Masher project before he splits town again for another European extended work stay. This project involves a vintage Conn saxophone, a removed mouthpiece, and Max MSP. Nicky Alonso will then bring a set from their Mrs. Hands project. The May Elastro Series presents two very different approaches to sound. 60 Strings consists of three Chicago pedal steel guitar players: Justin Brown, Jordan Martins and Sam Wagster. They skip the use of processing and pedals to allow the instrument to shine. We’ll then have a new trio of Gordon Fung, Jackie Swanson, and Melon Sprout. Music at 8pm!

Elastro welcomes Texas supergroup Tamarisk to town for their debut Chicago performance. The band features Christina Carter (of Charlambides), Andrew Weathers, and David Menestres. They’ll be releasing a brand new recording on Astral Editions titled Plays a Word for Wind in late April. Joining them on the show will be a solo set from Veronica Anne Salinas and trio from Gabbert/Goulet/Sowa. Music at 8pm!

March Elastro Series is happy to welcome Montreal artist Jeremy Young to Chicago on his week-long midwest US tour. Lula Asplund & Máo Chén Huì will present a duo on the CLEAT system, while Big Pal will present CLEAT work alongside choreography from Emily Craver.

The Elastro Series is pleased to collaborate with Chicago label Lurker Bias on a night of abstract electronics, noise, and free improvisation. The label is run by local musician Alexander Adams and they have curated a wonderful night including Torches Mauve (from Kansas City), All Extinct Animals, LB Trio, and AA-NYS-NJ-JV Quartet.
