The Elastro Series is excited to welcome Washington based composer A.F. Jones to the stage while they’re on a cross-country tour! Support from free improv group Snek Trio and solo cellist / electronic musician Dorothy Carlos!

A.F. Jones

Alan F. Jones is a Dallas-born, Washington-based musician, composer, and sound designer. In improvised live performance he emphasizes the use of guitar, lap steel, and pedal steel. In addition to solo and collaborative releases on Gertrude Tapes, Sedimental, Astral Spirits, Kendra Steiner Editions, Unfathomless, No Rent, and Glistening Examples, Jones has recorded and performed with Jacob Wick, Judith Hamann, Andrew Weathers, Jason Kahn, Monte Espina, Lori Goldston, Sarah Hennies, Derek Rogers, T.J. Borden, Gabi Losoncy, among others. Performing groups include Telescoping (w. Greg Kelley, Dave Abramson, Rob Millis, 'what' (w. Dave Abramson), MANKINDA, and Steerage. Jones is also co-director and the sound designer of the 2021 film, "What Is Man and What Is Guitar: Keith Rowe". He runs the Laminal Audio mastering studio.

Dorothy Carlos

Dorothy Carlos is a cellist and sound artist working with improvised performance and multi-channel sound installation in New York City and Chicago. Her work utilizes randomized effect pedals and programmed electronics to explore themes of intimacy, ephemerality, and imaginaries. Dorothy has performed at Lincoln Center, Park Avenue Armory, Performance Space New York, Roulette Intermedium and IRL Gallery, among others. Her research on imagined cultural practices has been published by the American Anthropology Association and presented at New York University. Dorothy has been featured as an artist and collaborator in projects presented at the Swiss Institute (New York), Zhou Brothers Art Center (Chicago), No Place Gallery (Cleveland), and the Fall River Museum of Contemporary Art (Fall River, MA) and has been awarded residencies and fellowships at Avaloch Farm, the Next Festival for Emerging Artists, and the Living Gallery. In collaboration with artist and synth builder, Brian Oakes, she will release a noise album, Circuit Specter, on the Chicago-based label American Dreams in September.
