The Elastro Series is excited to welcome two groups for their first event of 2022.
Set 1: Kieran Daly Group
Kieran Daly will present music composed specifically for tonight's concert of an improvising ensemble comprising cellist Katinka Kleijn, pianist Mabel Kwan, and contrabassist Jason Roebke. Each musician will improvise contiguously disparate, monophonic contours articulated by generally periodic and simple rhythms in contrasting temporal and timbral dimensions, resulting in a dense asynchronous polyphony not unlike some sort of musical 'cocktail party problem'.
Set 2: Weinberg/Smith/Walter
Saxophonist Sam Weinberg & drummer Weasel Walter have spent the better part of a decade refining and expanding their improvisatory simpatico, principally in trios with bassist Henry Fraser and prepared guitarist Sandy Ewen. Their’s is a music that is dense and hyper-detailed, entropic and engaging. For this Chicago performance, they are joined by one of Walter’s closest collaborators, bassist Damon Smith, who has recently relocated to St. Louis.
