The CLEAT Series focuses on work composed for the 16-channel speaker system in our space, allowing audiences to experience different approaches to spatial audio. This month we’ll be experiencing two studies by audio artist Ryan Holsopple and choreographer Ginger Krebs that utilize movement with wireless magnetometers to direct the sound in space. Explorers get their bearings as data points proliferate. Centripetal sounds spin them, clicking and rattling like pills on a roulette wheel. We’ll then see solo performances from Troy Cruz and Haruhi Kobayashi. Haruhi will present Sonic Playground, a piece that’s been performed three previous times and started as a 7 speaker spatial audio sculpture. Troy’s piece will combine sound synthesis, and spatialized field recordings in an attempt to express the absurd experience of life. This will be another exciting glimpse into the infinite possibilities of our CLEAT system!
