We’re excited for the August Dark Matter Series where we welcome musician/songwriter and Dark Matter Residency alumni Gira Dahnee back to Chicago to collaborate with some of Chicago’s finest. Dahnee’s songwriting focus is Afrofuturism, using the past and present to create better futures of people of African descent. For this performance she will be presenting new songs with an amazing supporting band that includes David Boykin, Scottie McNiece, and Adam Zanolini. We’ll then have Dark Matter resident Muso presenting new work that involves their exploration of spoken word / music. We’ll have an opening DJ set presented by BlkRoom from Julian Green. It’ll be another special night, join us!

The Dark Matter Series returns for a special July edition featuring jazz hip-hop fusion stemmed from prevalent modern American protests, R&B soul styles from Dark Matter Residency alumni, and an all-vinyl DJ set presented by The Blk.Room. Chris Saint Martin’s Guerrilla Projects headlines where he is joined by MC Jonathan Chambers and experimental trumpet player Nick Yeck-Stauffer. They will perform excerpts of the Protest Suite, a multi-media installation which assembles photographic and moving images from demonstrations in Daley Plaza to End the Death Penalty, the War in Iraq, and BlackLivesMatter. Filmed by Chris Saint Martin, he along with fellow musicians will create a live excerpt from the project using horns, keyboards and percussion, mixing ambient sounds, hip-hop and elements of free jazz. Dark Matter Resident alumni and prolific percussionist Naydja Bruton meets up with pianist Anaiet.Soul presenting original compositions that bring together R&B, latin jazz, and improvisations. DJ Sidaka blends their love of many genres, including selections of electronic, R&B, dance, soul, rock, and rap. Join us as they kick the night off at 8pm!

Dark Matter Series is back with another wonderful night of electronics, soul, dance music, and fun. Join us sa we welcome prolific Chicago electronic music artist Oui Ennui to our stage for his first live set with us. His music is absolutely infectious both in groove and melody. We’ll then have singer-songwriter Jada-Amina who infuses a mix of soul, gospel, and experimental sounds into her work. It’s going to be a great night. DJ Smba will provide sounds throughout the night.
