The first AfriClassical Futures Series of 2023 has arrived and will feature two incredible Chicago musicians and composers, Julian Otis and Sharon Udoh! There will be solo music, collaborations, and discussion. Through the AfriClassical Futures Series, Elastic Arts seeks to foreground the under-recognized achievements and challenges of African American composers and performers working in classical music. AfriClassical Futures Series: Renee Baker
The AfriClassical Futures Series is honored to welcome composer/musician Renee Baker for a performance from her Chicago Modern Orchestra Project and discussion with the series curators. From early classical style to unimaginable noisescapes, the pursuit of absolute integrity and absolute authenticity invades this CMOP ensemble. Ms. Baker is the founding music director and conductor of this internationally acclaimed ensemble and has composed more than 2,000 works, including numerous commissioned pieces/film scores for the Chicago Sinfonietta, and the Chicago Sinfonietta Chamber Ensemble, Berlin International Brass and more.
