Sound artist and musician Nicole Alonso is Mrs. Hands. She uses unconventional sampling techniques and improvisation to create textured and collage-like soundscapes to explore themes of memory and identity.

Her latest project Urethral Soundings will be available on tape and digitally through LA based label, Silk Nest. A label focused on presenting thoughts, feelings, and sounds to a contemporary audience that is diverse and accessible as much as possible.

Although Nicole says she is new to affirmations, Urethral Soundings is a very clear example of the practice. This tape is a split with the artist's own self, a reflexive churn from one end of a year to the other. She’s chosen certain words and frequencies to cut into muscle and bone, leaping achingly towards a truer state of being, then returning breathlessly home. These pangs of self and knowing are immortalized through their repetition. Nicole says her need is not to just capture a time in her life, but to express the entire environment surrounding an exact moment.

Nicole will perform a live reconstruction of the album using a collection of portable speakers throughout the space. Hedra Rowan and Jeff Goulet will be opening the show.
