Pleiades Series: Mabel Kwan/Molly Jones Duo, Carol Genetti

Mabel_Carol.jpg

Carol Genetti is a Chicago-based vocalist whose work encompasses sound and visual art media. Combining her wordless vocals with synthesizers and other electronics she creates a raw and visceral aesthetic that exists in a space where “language” and “music” have yet to be formulated into familiar cultural patterns.

She has performed with many improvising musicians, including Jack Wright, Eric Leonardson, Peter Maunu, Olivia Block and many others. Most recent recordings include a duet with Claire Rousay "Live at Elastic Arts" (Astral Spirits) and a collaborative release with visual artist Gwyneth Zeleny Anderson “Chyme" (Suppedaneum).

Molly Jones and Mabel Kwan have a combined interest in found sounds, accordions, and baking bread. They will perform for the first time as a duo on the inaugural show of the Pleiades Series.
_____________________________

Pleiades is a monthly series that features womxn and non-binary musicians and improvisors.  The series has a two-fold mission: to increase the visibility of phenomenal womxn musicians and to build community and connection between womxn improvisors from diverse backgrounds.

Each show opens with curated performances by renown artists which reflect the wide range of Chicago’s thriving creative music scene.  Their projects pull from diverse traditions such as contemporary classical, free jazz, metal, hiphop, performance art and noise music.

The second half of each show is dedicated to a free improvisation jam that includes both the headline performers and any other womxn or non-binary musicians who wish to play.  Improvisors of all experience levels are welcome to participate.  Those who wish to play are encouraged to get in touch ahead as the size of the jam may be limited.  Although the Pleiades series highlights womxn, EVERYONE is more than welcome to attend, hang and support!!

The Pleiades series is curated by Emily Rach Beisel and she is deeply grateful to her musical sisters, including Erica Miller and Molly Jones, for their input and support.

For more details or to join the jam please email pleiades@elasticarts.org
