Pleiades is our monthly series that features womxn and non-binary musicians/improvisors and this month we’ll have two sets to open the night followed by an open jam! Starting the night out we’ll have a solo set from flautist Dalia Chin. We’ll then hear a duo performance from vocalist / electronics explorer Carol Genetti and pianist Jim Baker. If you’d like to participate in the open jam (any femme / non-binary folks), please email pleiades@elasticarts.org
Artist Bios
Carol Genetti and Jim Baker are both improvisers; Genetti will likely make sounds using voice and various electronic devices; Baker will likely also make sounds using electronic devices, and perhaps also viola and/or piano.
Born and raised in Costa Rica, currently calling Chicago home. Dalia Chin is a sound explorer, using flutes as a basis for explorations, but also no stranger to using voice and the sounds of the world around her. Dalia strives to intuitively create music as a performer, improviser, and collaborator. Collaboration and aesthetic variety are at the center of her work as a soloist and chamber musician. It is through collaboration and work with composers that her work as a soloist and creator of sounds has grown. Dalia received her music degrees from University of Costa Rica, Florida State University, and DePaul University studying with Maria Luisa Meneses, Eva Amsler, and Mary Stolper.
