Join us for three days of improvised music from Chicago artists here at Elastic Arts!
We close the festival with an incredible evening of improvised music, opening with a rare Jim Baker solo set, followed by a new quartet from Dave Rempis, and closing with Bill MacKay and Katinka Kleijn.
Bill MacKay, a Chicago-based guitarist/composer/writer/ improviser, and cellist/improviser/composer Katinka Kleijn, a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the International Contemporary Ensemble, regularly team up as an improvised music duo. It is at once an unlikely and perfect pairing as both musicians are known not only for their excellence but also for their curiosity and range. Together they form a fluid, intuitive, dialogical, improvisational pair. Their record STIR is available on Drag City.

Dave Rempis is back at Elastic with a brand new quartet with unique formation. He leads with woodwinds alongside Chicago ex-pat Jacob Wick on trumpet. We’ll have Beth McDonald holding down the low end on tuba, and Phil Sudderberg on drums.
Chicago prolific legend Jim Baker opens the night with a solo performance on piano.
