T. Len

T. Berto

We’re honored to host the legendary syntheist Thomas Lehn to Elastic Arts to perform in duo with Tiziana Bertoncini. The two have been collaborating since 2002, in duo, ensembles, and various projects. The fusing of classical and the electronic sounds has been in the unique focus of their work since first meeting. The instruments are quite different in nature, but the two are able to mimic each other perfectly, dancing amongst frequencies, textures, and pulses. Their deep connection alongside the storied history of violin and synthesizer as allowed them to continuously grow and expand their vision. Their first duo CD release was highly praised in numerous reviews.

The night will open with a duo set and close with a quartet including Chicago mainstays Michael Zerang (percussion) and Emily Beisel (bass clarinet / electronics).

Music at 8pm!

Artist Bios

Tiziana Bertoncini
After graduating in classical violin at the Siena Conservatory and in Painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara her interest focused on contemporary music: written, improvised and electroacoustic. However, due probably to her double studies, she is mostly interested and fascinated by the meeting and synthesis between visual elements and music/sound and the invisible threads, that connect the arts with the domains of human knowledge and experience, Nature and the mysteries of the Universe and the Unknown. She is investigating the intermediate and border zones between opposites, at the boundary between existence and non-existence.
She has been performing in international festivals and venues and has been part of multi-disciplinary projects, contributing the performative and musical part of them. Her solo work includes electroacoustic compositions, performances and installations, which were presented in many international contexts. See a list of works here.
In 2011 her acousmatic piece NUR SAND was awarded at the competition Ferrari (r)écouté announced by hr2-kultur and ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics.
Her composition PANTA RHEI – DANUBE TIME SPACE was broadcasted at the Studio Akustische Kunst WDR3.
She was artist in residence at “Bridge guard-Residential Art/Science Centre” in Stúrovo (SK), AIR Krems (AT), Künstlerhaus Otte1 in Eckernförde and GEDOK Lübeck (DE).
She is a member of the ensemble]h[iatus, which moves in the territories of improvisation and interpretation of contemporary pieces.
