Berrow Duo w/ Andrew Harlan, Hali Palombo

Berrow Duo

Andrew Harlan

Adventurous New Music Ensemble, Berrow Duo (Thea Mesirow + Leia Slosberg), team up with bassist and composer Andrew Harlan for an evening of hypnotic electroacoustic improvisation. The group has been working on a suite of music over the past two years of the pandemic working together across the country on zoom (Berrow in NY and Harlan in Chicago). Their process has included weekly online improvisation sessions which then act as the starting point for lush electroacoustic explorations. They create music that ranges from dense free improvisation to glacial acoustic drones to chamber pop.

Hali Palombo supports.

Berrow Bio

Hailed as “hypnotic” and “engaging” by Cleveland Classical, Berrow Duo is the dynamic combination of flute and cello committed to the creation of new works. New York City-based performers Leia Slosberg, flute, and Thea Mesirow, cello, bonded over their desire to push traditional playing boundaries with the incorporation of text and extended techniques in instrumental music. Together, they focus on the promotion of women and femme-identified composers and artists to create new works through close collaboration. They have been presented by Montreal Contemporary Music Lab, the Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project, the 2018 Music Department Conference at NYU, the SENSE Concert Series in Baltimore, MD, and the Mise-En Place Curator Series. Their 2019/2020 season will include four premieres by Emily Praetorius, James Hamilton Lowrie, AJ Stillabower, and ZongYun We. Berrow Duo is passionate about experimentation, exploration, and the expansion of expression in instrumental music.
