We’re thrilled to host NYC-based vocalist/composer Anaïs Maviel to Elastic Arts for a night of solo and ensemble improvisations. Maviel's work focuses on the function of art to address relation, and the power of sound to shape reality. Connecting intimacy and subconscious narratives with collective and large-scale principles, Anaïs navigates song, choral, instrumental music and staging, connecting cosmologies of sound rooted in oral traditions.
For her Chicago debut, she'll offer a glimpse on her compositional process with non-linear song-writing and structured improvisation, accompanying her voice with piano. She will be joined by Chicago's own special guests Ernest Dawkins (saxophone), olula negre (cello), Ben Lamar Gay (cornet & electronics), Adam Zanolini (bass) BSA Gold (flute/synth), and Cristal Sabbagh (dance) in various combinations.
