Tracteur Hammer (The Bridge 2.8), Jackson/Sugimoto/Harris/Ra

Clockwise from upper left: Mai Sugimoto, Fred Jackson, Avreeayl Ra, Bill Harris

The Bridge, a transatlantic network for jazz and creative music, is back in Chicago. After a year's absence from the Midwest, it's the turn of the group Tracteur Hammer [The Bridge #2.8] to take the stage: Hunter Diamond on tenor saxophone, Florian Nastorg on baritone saxophone, olula negre on cello, and Yoram Rosilio on double bass. We saw them touring France in January 2024 for their first tour together. They are back in a slightly modified lineup (with olula negre on cello replacing Mikel Patrick Avery on drums) for the second part of their adventures across the ocean. We've seen it a hundred times before, and never before. Two saxophones (and other things) on each side, pillars in flames of course, the framework of a double bass and all the grooves of the cello. An adelphity born of an epic journey. We haven't seen anything yet.

For the occasion, they will share the stage with the quartet formed by Fred Jackson Jr., Mai Sugimoto, Bill Harris, and Avreeayl Ra. Two alto saxophones, two drum kits. A game of symmetry and complementarity in the service of improvised music where 2+2 does not equal 4 but much more.
