Elastic Outreach/Night Out In the Parks meets AFW9 for a free early evening activation on Day 2 of AfroFuturist Weekend!
We close out our season of Power of The Word events at Douglass Park on October 3, from 5-6:30 PM. Meet us at the Douglass Park Fieldhouse as AFW9 meets Night Out In the Parks/Elastic Arts Outreach for a lovely evening of remembrance and soul. And what a great way to end our NOITP series, featuring trumpeter and vocalist Sam Thousand and Dark Matter Resident Zahra Glenda Baker!
First, experience Zahra Glenda Baker’s "Out From the Shadows: A tribute to Anna Murray Douglass"
Zahra celebrates the resourceful life of Anna Murray Douglass, an abolitionist and member of the underground railroad, through storytelling and communal singing. She was also the first wife of Frederick Douglass, whose story was made possible by her unswerving loyalty.
We'll cap off the early evening with
a set from trumpeter/composer Sam Thousand @samthousand! Sam will melt away your troubles with beautiful musical arrangements and his thoughtful and stirring vocals.
This is a FREE event generously funded by Chicago Park District/Night Out In The Parks!
