We’re incredibly excited to welcome Scottish electronic musician and composer Lauren Hayes in to Chicago to perform on the Elastic stage. This will be a part of a US tour and their only solo performance in Chicago. Sharing the night we’ll have new-to-Chicago artist Kim Nucci opening the night with a set of modular synth and electronics, then the incredible engineer, educator, and artist Alex Inglizian will also play a solo electronics set. It’s going to be a great night!

Artist Bios

Lauren Sarah Hayes is a Scottish improviser and sound artist. Her music is a mix of experimental pop/live electronics/techno/noise/free improvisation and has been described as ‘voracious’ and ‘exhilarating’. She is a sculptress of sound, manipulating, remixing, and bending voice, drum machines, analogue synths and self-built software live and physically. She is excited by what can happen in the vulnerable relationships between sound, space, and audience. Her shows are highly physical, making the performance of live electronic music more engaging for audiences. Over the last decade she has developed and honed a deliberately challenging and unpredictable performance system that explores the relationships between bodies, sound, environments, and technology.

Kim Nucci is an Oakland/Chicago-based multimedia artist, composer / improviser, and technologist. They perform on saxophones, electronics, voice, and live projection. Nucci's research interests explore the pedestrian cybernetic body through critically examining our relationship with technology and with our instruments. Their solo performance practice is invested in the exploration of ritualism and trance states in improvisation. They hold an M.F.A. in Electronic Music and Recording Media, and an M.A. in Music Composition from Mills College, and a B.A. in Visual Arts from Bennington College. They are head of A.C.R.E. Residency's sound department. Their practice is largely collaborative. They are the Technical Director of Driven Arts Collective (DAC), which recently completed the Dresher Ensemble Artist Residency with their projects CELSO: In Utero and CELSO: Digital Milk, a dance/theatre work with live music and interactive technologies. DAC has been awarded the ARCC Residency at Counterpulse where they are creating a new work in the CELSO series. With DAC, Kim directed/filmed the video work “Quarant Time” documenting the collective’s rehearsal process during 2020 and assisted with filming of “Z A G A.” Previously, they did show programming and co-authored music & video elements for DAC's evening length prodution, << KHÔRA >>. They currently work at Art Institute of Chicago doing installing media artworks as part of the Audio Visual Services Team.

Alex Inglizian is a Chicago based artist, composer, musician, engineer and educator. His work explores the boundaries of noise, harmony, silence, space, performance, and improvisation. He is a graduate of The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and is currently a co-director and chief recording engineer at Experimental Sound Studio, an internationally recognized non-profit sound art organization. Alex is also a professor of sound for film studies and music production at Northwestern University and The School of The Art Institute. He frequently performs among the vibrant Chicago experimental music scene and regularly collaborates with filmmakers. Inglizian is deeply influenced by the rich history of experimental electronic music and improvisation, and continues to draw inspiration from the contemporary artists he works with professionally and creatively on a daily basis.
