Into The Garden, An East Meets West Night w/ Music & Performance ft. Chalongchai Phitsanuwong, Luc Mosley, Scott Rubin, Cristal Sabbagh, Erin Peisert, Sara Zalek, and Wannapa P-Eubanks

This special night curated by Wannapa P-Eubanks in celebration of friendship, culture, and music with this trio: Scott Rubin [ Viola ], Luc Mosley [ Saxophone/ percussion], and special guest, Thai traditional musician : Chalongchai Phitsanuwong [ Saw-U*/ Jakhay* ]. Also featuring Butoh*/Butoh inspired dance/movement with Cristal Sabbagh, Erin Peisert, Sara Zalek, and the Flowing Squad* { Hereaclitus Here Vernon/ Meenakshi Marchione/ Sarah Luczko/and Sara Zalek]

*The saw u ( also spelled saw ou) is a Thai bowed string instrument. It has a lower pitch.

*Thai Jakhay is a fretted floor zither or lute with three strings used in Thai and Khmer music

Artists

Luc Mosley is a performer and composer who utilizes saxophone, electronics, and other instruments for sound exploration.

Scott Rubin is an interdisciplinary artist and violist whose work interrogates relationships between sound and movement through analog and digital means. His recent projects have involved collaborations with musicians and dancers, often incorporating interactive acoustic/electronic improvisation, expanded performance practices, motion-sensors, and live video. In these projects, he engages themes of intimacy, control, and the sublime.

Chalongchai Phitsanuwong is a Thai traditional musician who is specialty in playing Saw-U, and Jakhay. He has been performing with his longstanding Thai group in many events.

Cristal Sabbagh (Visual and Multidisciplinary Performing Artist and Educator) Cristal Sabbagh’s performance practice, rooted in improvisation and Butoh, walks a line between the everyday, the divine, the personal, and the political. In embodying in her art transformational memories while simultaneously celebrating pop culture and the experimental, she challenges power structures and awakens viewers’ senses.

Erin Peisert is a performance artist whose work utilizes time, body, and place to consider conscious awareness and the mystery of Being.

Sara Zalek is an interdisciplinary artist, Avant-garde maker of situations and curious objects. Rooted in physical investigations of trauma, resilience, and transformation, their work is intimate, raw, poetic.

Wannapa P-Eubanks is a Butoh artist, improviser, choreographer, movement coach, and actor who creates expressive works, including movement based interactive performances. Her work often stems from a personal experience or a specific memory that grows into a poetic image that she imbues with the memory of the moment.
