TROMPE is an improvising music trio from the east coast featuring Taylor Ho Bynum (cornet), Jeff Song (cello, pictured) and Daniel Lin (cello). For this concert they will be joined by special guests (and Chicago music heroes) Michael Zerang (drums, percussion) and Jeb Bishop (trombone).
Percussionist Tyler Tadlock joins us from Jackson, Mississippi in an ad-hoc group with Jeb Bishop and Christopher RIggs.

About The Artists
Improviser, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and percussionist Tyler Tadlock blurs the lines of ambient, electronic, and experimental music.est known for Spirituals, his long-term solo project, Tyler has garnered widespread recognition for his immersive soundscapes and evocative live performances. His compositions blend organic textures with electronic synthesis, creating deeply personal works that invite listeners into meditative, introspective trances.
Currently serving as the Music Supervisor and Executive Producer for Ambient Film on PBS, Tyler plays a pivotal role in shaping the series’ auditory landscape. With a background in ambient music, improvisation, and composition, he curates and produces original music that enhances Ambient Film’s signature hypnotic experience.
Beyond his work on Ambient Film, Tyler is a sought-after collaborator, regularly working with like-minded musicians, filmmakers, and artists across various creative disciplines. His works have been featured in Vice, Resident Advisor, XLR8R, Pitchfork, and has appeared on NTS Radio, KEXP, SirusXM, Dublab, Mary Ann Hobbs’s BBC6 Four Tet guest mix, and Gilles Peterson’s WorldwideFM.Taylor Ho Bynum has spent his career navigating the intersections between structure and improvisation—through musical composition, performance and interdisciplinary collaboration, and through teaching, writing, production and organizing. Bynum's expressionistic playing on cornet and his expansive vision as composer have garnered him critical attention on over twenty recordings as a bandleader and dozens more as a sideman. His varied endeavors include his Acoustic Bicycle Tours (where he travels to concerts solely by bike across thousands of miles) and his stewardship of Anthony Braxton's Tri-Centric Foundation (which he served as executive director from 2010-2018, producing and performing on many major Braxton projects, including two operas and multiple festivals). Bynum has worked with other legendary figures such as Bill Dixon, Cecil Taylor, and Wadada Leo Smith and maintains current collaborative projects with artists like Tomas Fujiwara, Mary Halvorson and Tomeka Reid, among others. Bynum's writing has been published in the New Yorker, Point of Departure and Sound American, and he has served as a panelist, board member and consultant for leading arts organizations and individual artists.
Jeff Song (he/him) is a musician, composer, actor, visual artist and New England Foundation for the Arts grant recipient. He received his BA in Anthropology from Boston University, and his MM from the New England Conservatory of Music where he studied with Ran Blake and Joe Maneri, among others. Fluent in a variety of musical languages, Je4 has been active in improvised and experimental music, jazz, rock, and Americana for over 30 years. Primarily a bass guitarist and cellist, he has also performed and recorded on guitar, piano, oud, and kayagum. Jeff has performed at music festivals around the globe and appears on over a dozen recordings - his original music featured on radio, television, and the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. As touring bassist for Ute Lemper, he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, L’Opéra de Vichy, and The Palermo Festival Di Verdura. Daniel Lin (he/him) is a multi-disciplinary improviser, composer, and memory worker. Daniel is active in jazz and Black Creative Music communities, most recently performing with Bill Cole, Taylor Ho Bynum, Ras Moshe, Warren Smith, Bill Lowe, Tomeka Reid, Alexander Hawkins, Joseph Daley, Althea SullyCole, Je4 Song, and Eli Hecht. His practice emphasizes collective improvisation and deep listening, drawing inspiration from the music’s histories of liberation, social justice, and radical organization and solidarities. Now based in Baltimore, MD, he spends his time playing/composing music, acting/music directing for theater, and working in libraries/archives.
Jeb Bishop has performed, toured and recorded with groups including the Vandermark Five, the Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls, Fred Lonberg-Holm's Terminal Four, School Days, Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra, Globe Unity Orchestra, The Engines, and his own Jeb Bishop Trio and Quartet. He also co-led the Lucky 7s project with New Orleans-based trombonist Jeff Albert and is a member of the Boston- based cooperative quintet Cutout. He has performed at venues and clubs of every size and description and at jazz and other music festivals throughout North America and Europe.
Michael Zerang was born in Chicago, Illinois and is a first generation American of Assyrian decent. He has been an active musician, composer, and producer since 1976, focusing extensively on improvised music, free jazz, contemporary composition, puppet theater, experimental theater, and international musical forms. He has been a long-standing member of The Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet, Friction Brothers, Brötzmann/McPhee/Kessler/Zerang Quartet, and Survival Unit III with Joe McPhee and Fred Lonberg-Holm. He has collaborated extensively with contemporary theater, dance, and other multidisciplinary forms and has received three Joseph Je4erson Awards for Original Music Composition in Theater, in 1996, 1998, and 2000. He has over one-hundred titles in his discography and has toured nationally and internationally to 34 countries since 1981 with and ever-widening pool of collaborators. He was the artistic director of the Link's Hall Performance Series from 1985-1989 where he produced over 300 concerts of jazz, traditional ethnic folk music, electronic music, and other forms of forward thinking music.
