Dushun Mosley

At this week’s Improvised Music Series we’re honored to host the legendary percussionist Dushun Mosley with his group The Vizitors GMC! Dushun a member of Chicago’s Association for the Advancement Musicians, Dushun Mosley is a percussionist extraordinaire. In addition to working with other AACM artists and other greats like Roscoe Mitchell, Muhal Richard Abrams, Anthony Davis and Don Cherry, Dushun a member of Eight Bold Souls, The AACM Great Black Music Ensemble and co-leads The Vizitors with Detroit pianist Kenneth Green. Kenneth also has worked with Roscoe Mitchell, Douglas Ewart and a host of others favorites like James Carter, and Leroy Jenkins. Green was nominated for Outstanding Jazz Keyboardist in the Detroit’s Music Awards. He is an extraordinary pianist and a world class composer.

Artist Bios

Dushun Mosley, Percussionist, is a performer, bandleader and father of three. Based in Chicago, IL he is the bandleader for the Vizitors and the Signature Group, a member of the Eight Bold Souls, Frontburners, Chicago 3D, Shadow Vignettes and the AACM Big Band. Mr. Mosley has toured extensively as a soloist, in duets, trios and big bands. He has been called upon to do numerous engagements in social clubs, music halls and festivals in cities throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and Japan. These performances have contributed to his distinguished reputation as a forerunner in this generation of innovators. His style is Traditional Jazz, Blues and funk in a combo band setting, but feels equally at home pushing big bands and Orchestras’ to their limit.

He is producing his first CD with the Vizitors in the Fall of 1998.
He has performed with numerous entertainers such as Sasha Dolton, Roscoe Mitchell, Steve Colson, Douglas Ewart, Henry Threadgill, Anthony Davis, Don Moye, Don Cherry, Richard Muhal Abrams, Jodie Christian and others.

Kenneth L. Green is a musician, composer, environmental scientist and author. His articles have appeared in the Environmental Manager’s Compliance Advisor, U.S. EPA Brownfield Conference. His compositions have been recorded on Atlantic Records, AACM Chicago, Musicolor, and Mikai Music labels. His music has also been praised by NPR, The Chicago Tribune and The Detroit Metro Times. In his dedication to creative music and excellent karma, he continues to travel and tour nationally and internationally with other stellar musicians as well as the receptive in the Environmental Justice and Climate Change movements.
