The Improvised Music Series welcomes the experimental trio Soft Slap and Jake Wark performing solo this Thursday. Soft Slap declares a space of queer trans* love and intimacy with no hierarchy between audience and performer through performing sonic scores and creating action-based sound. This ephemeral sanctuary allows for investigation of sensuality, sexuality, sound, space, and self. Jake Wark is a saxophonist, composer, and improviser who has been active in Chicago’s creative music community since 2014, when he relocated from upstate New York. He can be heard in numerous groups in Chicago as a sideman and collaborator, and has released two albums as a bandleader: Scrawl (2020), and Tremor (2017). Join us!
