Hugo Flores García (he/they) is a computer musician, improviser, programmer, and scientist whose creative practice spans improvised and composed music for guitars, sound objects and electronics, sound installations, bespoke digital musical instruments, and interactive art. Hugo will perform solo.
Teiku (co-leaders pianist Josh Harlow and percussionist Jonathan Barahal Taylor) build Teiku on the foundation of the music they grew up singing: their Jewish-Ukranian ancestors' Passover songs, passed down aurally over generations. Using these songs as source material for expansive improvisation, the group weaves through an adventurous set that maintains its ritualistic origins while simultaneously venturing into the unknown. Their performance at Elastic will feature longtime friends and collaborators, Ben Willis (bass) and Molly Jones (woodwinds).

About The Artists
Drawing from his background as a jazz musician and computer scientist, Hugo Flores García approaches his craft with a deep curiosity for the interplay between natural and human-made environments and interactions. His research centers around designing new instruments for creative expression, focusing on artist-centered machine-learning interfaces for the sound arts. Hugo was born and raised in Honduras, the heart of Central America. He now lives in Chicago, IL.
Teiku's origin story feels almost pre-ordained. Co-leaders pianist Josh Harlow and percussionist Jonathan Barahal Taylor build Teiku on the foundation of the music they grew up singing: their Jewish-Ukranian ancestors' Passover songs, passed down aurally over generations. Harlow and Taylor's families each steward a number of unique melodies that likely originated in their ancestral villages but now survive only through their family lines. The group released their debut album, featuring legendary bassist Jaribu Shahid and versatile woodwind virtuosos Peter Formanek and Rafael Leafar, in 2024 on Brooklyn-based 577 Records.
