About The Artists
Larvavision plays blistering, high-octane Sax-and-Drum chaos. Its members have played in the Chicago experimental scene for decades as members of groups like Pet Peeves, Taste Rubber, Tijuana Hercules, Hot Garbage, Skinchanger, Black Bear Combo, and many more.
Gerrit Hatcher and Erez Dessel present a project rooted in the tradition but looking ahead. Their duo music includes free improvisation as well as compositions: original, repertory, lesser-known and traditional.
Gerrit Hatcher (B. 1991, Boston, MA) is a Chicago-based saxophonist and writer. Hatcher founded his imprint Kettle Hole Records in 2019; in addition to his releases there, he has released music on Aerophonic Records, Amalgam Music, JAKI Records, Astral Spirits, No Index and The Bridge Sessions, and published fiction with Secret Restaurant Press and Vat. Hatcher has performed at The Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), Healing Force of the Universe (Pasadena), Paviljoen Ongehoorde Muziek (Eindhoven), Studio Grez (Brussels), Witzli Poetzli (Antwerp), Hotclub de Gand (Ghent), La Dynamo (Pantin), Downtown Music Gallery (New York), iBeam (New York), The Renaissance Society (Chicago), Unda.m. 93 (Chicago), The Logan Center for the Arts (Chicago), Kiosk (Chicago), Constellation (Chicago), and Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago), amongst other venues.
Erez Dessel (USA 1998) is an improvising pianist and composer. After graduating from the New England Conservatory, Dessel moved to Savannah, GA, where he served as music director at the Savannah Music Festival Jazz Academy, Savannah’s first free after-school youth jazz program. He also kept up an active performing career in the Southeast, including presenting an hour-long improvised work for piano, pastel, and paper at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center. Since moving to Chicago he has worked continuously both as a performer and organizer, recording in an array of contexts with many internationally renowned musicians (including Ken Vandermark, Tim Daisy, Kim Alpert, and Ben Hall).
