We’re so excited to host the prolific duo of NYC-based artists Fred Moten and Brandon Lopez for a special Wednesday night performance. Moten is an inimitable poet, theorist, critic, and 2020 MacArthur Fellow. Moten’s presence, voicing poetry in an improvisatory syncopation with the instrumentalists, raises the music to third plane, putting the record in a broader collection of legendary spoken-word jazz records from Gil Scott-Heron and Amiri Baraka to the contemporary energies of Moor Mother and Irreversible Entanglements. Bassist Brandon Lopez uses the instrument to conjure whole worlds of sound. His unique approach has made him an in-demand sideman and collaborator. That's in addition to leading his own projects, which includes a recent duo recording with Cecila Lopez and stints with Italian group Jooklo Duo.
