Dal Niente teams up with composer and multi-instrumentalist Macie Stewart for a free evening of music at Elastic Arts. This is the fifth in a series of shared programs between Dal Niente and other respected Chicago artists, supported by a DCASE Chicago Artists Recovery Program Grant.
For the past year and a half, Macie has been working on new solo material involving prepared piano, field recordings, and string improvisations/compositions. For this performance, Lia Kohl, Whitney Johnson, and Zach Moore will join Macie to perform some of this unreleased material, as well as excerpts from Mouth Full of Glass alongside members of Ensemble Dal Niente.

About Macie Stewart
Macie Stewart is a Chicago based, multi-instrumentalist, composer/arranger, songwriter, and improviser. Stewart primarily works with piano, violin, voice, guitar. From a very young age Macie was drawn towards sound; learning to communicate with music while simultaneously learning to communicate with words. Stewart’s experience as an open collaborator and composer in her own right has led her music to become fluid and expansive- drawing on all that has come before while intentionally searching for something new. Mouth Full of Glass was her debut solo project in 2021. Since then, Macie has created two full length sound installations, Hisako's House (2023), a site-specific multimedia piece involving dance, visuals, and music with choreographer Robyn Mineko Williams; as well as The World Doubles in Size (2024), a quadraphonic sound installation through Experimental Sound Studio at Lincoln Park Conservatory in Chicago, IL. Stewart is also a founding member of the band Finom, who have released 4 full length records, created the multi-media theater performance, Full Bush, and have been touring internationally since 2016.
