We’ve got an incredibly special Elastro Series planned for the final Friday of May! Montgomery and Turner is a duo featuring Nashville and Chicago based musicians Jayve Montgomery (Abstract Black) and Nick Turner (Tyresta). They began collaborating remotely in 2020 and are celebrating the recent release of their sophomore album Sound is Our Sustenance on Astral Editions. Tonight they will be joined by art educator. interdisciplinary artist, and Elastic curator Cristal Sabbagh for this performance. Sabbagh’s performance practice, rooted in improvisation and Butoh, walks a line between the everyday, the divine, the personal, and the political. In embodying in her art transformational memories, while simultaneously celebrating pop culture and the experimental, she challenges power structures and awakens viewers’ senses.

Brussels, Belgium-based Liew Niyomkarn is a sound artist and musician whose background lies in experimental sound practice and performance. Her work primarily explores echoes and sustained sounds achieved through acoustic instruments and Supercollider, a coding language employed to craft various tuning systems. She integrates field recordings to capture the essence of time and everyday routines, immersing herself in the sounds of the wilderness, archival recordings, and the ambient music culture. These elements are amalgamated with her sonic palette and the intrinsic properties of sound, such as spatial characteristics, feedback loops, and the manipulation of extended decays and harmonics. She presents her work through live performances and sound installations.

Emily Rach Beisel is a Chicago-based improviser, composer, educator, curator and woodwind specialist. Beisel is known for visceral performances blending extended vocal and instrumental techniques with analogue electronics and rich bass clarinet tone. Their solo album Particle of Organs has been described as "Operatic, wild and dark. It showcases the raw, unadulterated power of the body and the instrument, weaving together sounds that are both corrosive and tender." As a curator, Beisel seeks to increase the visibility and involvement of femme, trans and nonbinary artists in the creative music community. They founded the Pleiades Series here at Elastic Arts, presenting monthly performances along with a community-based free improvisation jam for femme and nonbinary performers.
