Matthew Ryals
V. Vecker
Heather Mease
Ben Zucker
At this month’s Elastro series we welcome solo sets from two traveling artists Matthew Ryals and Keith Vecker aka V. Vecker, and a duo from Heather Mease / Ben Zucker.
Ryals (he/him) is a New York City-based modular synthesist and composer-improviser whose music explores improvisation, generative systems, cybernetics, chance operations, and experimental archiving. In concert, Matthew takes a highly tactile approach to the modular synthesizer, with touch, intuition, and real-time responsiveness at the core of his performance. Much like an acoustic musician shaping sound, he manipulates electricity by constantly adjusting dials, switches, and patch points, allowing each performance to unfold spontaneously in the moment.
V.Vecker(Keith Arthur Wecker, b. 1983) is a composer, improvisor, and multi-instrumentalist using technology to explore the timbral and temporal properties of granular synthesis in the creation of electroacoustic music. Keith puts a focus on bringing the in-between sounds to the forefront through a layering intensive process, creating rich sonic textures that evoke a meditative sonic environment for the listener to immerse themselves in.
Elastic curator Ben Zucker will collaborate as a duo with artist Heather Mease to open the evening. They will perform an anti-liminal multimedia collaboration with video contributions from UK animator Happisoft (https://happisoft.net). A roomful of eggs, the photonegative Dollar Tree, sad found footage, chamber vaporwave, unknowable cassettes...finally, a third dimension!
