An assemblage of sonic vignettes sculpted from digital electronics, live improvisation, and studio manipulation, percussionist Lesley Mok presents a solo set where the music feels like a passage through affective zones—like a slow deliberate walk through a museum where its unknown sensorium unfolds itself to you.
Joining the bill will be a solo project from Chicago ex-pat percussionist Matt Carroll titled SloGlo. Opening the night will be Ishamel Ali performing new compositions with ensemble Ed Wilkerson Jr. and Bill Harris.

Artist Bios
Lesley Mok is a New York City-based percussionist and sound artist. Their work is guided by a continual search for the connection between the mundane and the divine, the experience and manipulation of time, and a desire to capture emotional dissonance and complexity. Lesley’s ongoing explorations with composition and improvisation are most notably documented in their debut album The Living Collection (released May 2023 on American Dreams Records). The album, described as “an exquisite and stimulating work” by All About Jazz and “a singularly personal statement” by Jazz Trail Magazine, was named International Debut Album of the Year at the 2024 Deutscher Jazz Preis. As a collaborator, Lesley has shared the stage with Tomeka Reid, William Parker, Ingrid Laubrock, Marilyn Crispell, Craig Taborn, Myra Melford, Mary Halvorson, and Rafiq Bhatia among others. They have performed throughout the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
At the center of SloGlo is the idea of “the eternal light,” a steady presence that persists through change, grief, distance, and transformation. The name reflects the belief that even when unseen, the sun continues to shine. SloGlo is the project of Chicago-born drummer and producer Matt Carroll, now based in Copenhagen, Denmark, blending live drumming, electronics, sampled textures, and immersive sound design into hypnotic avant club music that is both deeply physical and emotionally expansive.
Following the acclaimed debut album Symbols And Mirrors, praised
by PopMatters as “unusual, lovable, and offering something new with each listen,” SloGlo returns with In Another Language, an exploration of rhythm, memory, and transformation. Cryptic vocal loops, fractured percussion, industrial textures, and expansive synth atmospheres collide to create music that feels simultaneously handmade and futuristic. Across the record, samba rhythms, dubstep pressure, jazz improvisation, baile funk, and ambient electronics coexist without hierarchy, unified by Carroll’s deeply tactile sense of groove.
Live, SloGlo expands into an electro-acoustic duo with cellist Ishmael Ali. Together, they create immersive performances that blur the line between concert, improvisation, and ritual.
SloGlo invites listeners into a sensory space shaped less by explanation than by feeling, a place where rhythm becomes reflection, sound becomes memory, and meaning emerges through presence.
