Deidre Huckabay 'NOT DEATH BUT DISSIPATION'

NOT DEATH BUT DISSIPATION is a new project from Deidre Huckabay, who is romantically in love with time. All love assures one is vulnerable to loss. In these new tunes, we begin to grieve time in advance.

The ensemble will include Caitlin Edwards, Hunter Diamond, Lia Kohl, Ben Melsky, and Sam Scranton. There will be an opening performance from Corey Smith.

Artist Bios

Deidre Huckabay is a performer, writer, and flutist. Their artwork, work-for-money work, lifework, and everyday habits and rituals flow from the hope that liberation from suffering is possible in every lifetime, for every living being. Deidre is co-owner of the experimental cassette tape label Parlour Tapes+ and a member of the collective Mocrep. This year, in a partnership with Experimental Sound Studio and supported by a major grant from DCASE, they co-created Golden Egg, an artist-led initiative offering retirement grants and other resources to Chicago musicians. Golden Egg aspires to be a model for democratic, collective ownership and control of community wealth for artists.

Corey Smith is a composer, writer, and performer based in Chicago, Illinois. They work in a hybridized performance style — a synthesis of original music, text, and movement.
