We’ve got a great show planned for the September Dark Matter Series! Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist Sam Thousand will grace our stage with a TBA configuration. From maintaining years of performance residencies, curating special events throughout the city, and serving as a booking manager at multiple venues and spaces, Sam Thousand has become a fixture in Chicago’s performing arts scene. We’re so happy to welcome him here to Elastic Arts for his first show in our space in many years. Preceding Sam we’ll have the prolific Dark Matter Resident Sharon Udoh play a solo set for voice and piano. Sharon’s songwriting is ecstatic, emotional, and can shake the foundation of your soul. Opening the night we’ll have a DJ set from Sey Twila via The Blk.Room who brings a mix of house and post-club to their mix. It’ll be a beautiful Wednesday night!

Sam Thousand is a multifaceted creative that practices interactive musical art forms intended to engage and uplift. Experience a unique performance in music and dialogue as we explore together the ebb and flow of creativity and how momentum, or the lack there of affects the psyche of a creative mind.
Sharon Udoh is a gay, first-generation Nigerian-American composer, pianist, arranger, and vocalist. Her work abandons genre and is expansive, focusing on human complexity, order within chaos, and emotional connection. She sometimes takes the stage under the name Counterfeit Madison; her performances have been described as a warm bowl of soup, a tornado, a jalapeño pepper, a Jackson Pollock painting, a bulldozer, dangerous yet kind, and magnetic. She lives in the Midwest and has an absurd millennial addiction to sparkling water. Find out more at counterfeitmadison.com.
