BSA Gold

Gilt Drip

JayaFeM/Jessica F. Morrison

Join us at the Dark Matter Series for a kinetic evening with sonic alchemist BSA Gold, poet/emcee/pianist, JayaFeM (Jessica F. Morrison), and duo Gilt Drip!

We’re thrilled to have versatile flautist and experimental composer BSA Gold back at Elastic Arts, performing with multidisciplinary artist Xristian Espinoza. Previously having performed with ensembles as part of the Improvised Music Series, we’re proud to finally feature her as a headlining performer.

Emergent powerhouse JayaFeM will be opening this evening performing “Transformation Flight #222,” an earthly adventure created to pour love and light into any soul healing something inside that the outside world can’t fix. This vulnerable journey into self explores the meaning of truth as it relates to one individual life experience. The main character shares snapshots of her life through poetry, music, monologues, and movement. From realistic bird calls to poetic imagery, this creative storytelling experience will fulfill your senses and refuel your sense of play.

Rounding out the evening’s roster will be dark trip-hop synth alt R&B duo Gilt Drip, featured earlier this year in the Pleiades Series.

This will absolutely be an evening of power that you won’t want to miss. Join us for the experience!

Artist Bios

BSA Gold is a producer and flautist from Washington, DC, based in Chicago, IL. Inspired by the sonic landscapes of Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, and her ancestry, she explores spirituality, self-understanding, and the possibilities of composition through synths and electronics

Xristian Alejandro Espinoza is a Mexican and Bolivian sculptor, painter, and musician based in Chicago. Xristian uses art as a language of space and encoded archetypes to explore the subconscious and determination of alter-destiny.

Gilt Drip is a Black Queer trip-hop synth duo based in Chicago. It is comprised of Sarai Bernice: south side garden baddie, composer/vocalist and visual artist; and Khalyle Hagood: wistful bassist and synthist. Gilt Drip uses grimy production juxtaposed with smooth energetic vocals to create a trip hop sound with sad boi vibes. Using lyrical aesthetics of water, dreams, and navigating the ever transforming landscape of human relationships, the group weaves soundscapes to dance and fall toward introspection

Jessica F. Morrison (JayaFeM - JFM) - she/her/hers - is a Chicago native representing the South Side. She has 15 years of training and experience as a professional actor. Though born to a family of creative musicians, she is a relatively new artist on this music scene. As a classically trained actor, she highlights her depth of character development, diction, and versatility through her work as a solo-performance artist. This fountain of infinite creative expression continues to reveal its true expansiveness. In her performances, audiences often experience: spoken word poetry, piano, singing, multiple characters, live visual art, monologues, and rapping.

Here’s what JayaFeM says about the path of her art: “I have survived the lowest of lows of depression, PTSD and anxiety. During my journey through those dark places, this present version of me was growing in my belly like a child ‘becoming’ in her mother’s womb, ready to take the first breath on her own. The depth in my bones, and the stories in my belly dance + sing loudly like the drums of a thousand freed slaves on Freedom Day. I dedicate my life to being a vessel of transformation and healing for my people and especially for Black Women. May my life be a song of soul-filling love, light, laughter and understanding.” - JFM

The Dark Matter Series is supported in part by generous funding from Live Music Society.
