The CLEAT Series focuses on work composed for the 16-channel speaker system in our space, allowing audiences to experience different approaches to spatial audio. For the second CLEAT Series edition of October we’re honored to welcome Spanish electronic composer Francisco López to present new work on the system. We’re also lucky to have Irish sound artist / composer Barbara Ellison presenting new work as well! Chicago duo post doom roomance, artists Mykel Boyd and Seah, will open the night with an audio/visual presentation utilizing the 16 channel system. Performances will start at 8pm!

Artist Bios

Francisco López is internationally recognized as one of the main figures of the experimental music and audio art scenes. For over forty years he has developed an astonishing sonic universe, absolutely personal and iconoclastic, based on a profound listening of the world. Destroying boundaries between industrial sounds and wilderness sound environments, shifting with passion from the limits of perception to the most dreadful abyss of sonic power, proposing a blind, profound and transcendental listening, freed from the imperatives of knowledge and open to sensory and spiritual expansion. He has realized hundreds of concerts, projects with field recordings, workshops and sound installations in over eighty countries of the six continents. His extensive catalogue of sound pieces –with live and studio collaborations, as well as projects curated and directed, with more than a thousand artists– has been released by over 450 recording labels / publishers all over the world. Among other prizes, López has been awarded five times with honorary mentions at the competition of Ars Electronica Festival and is the recipient of a Qwartz Award for best sound anthology. https://franciscolopez.bandcamp.com

Barbara Ellison is an award-winning artist / composer whose work explores ghostly presence and substance in a plethora of sonic and visual realms. Her creations have been presented internationally in live performances, installations, featured radio shows, and audio releases, including her latest album ‘CyberSongs’ (Unsounds Records) and the 3-hour piece ‘Cyber-Opera’. She holds a PhD on composition from the University of Huddersfield, UK. Her book ‘Sonic Phantoms’ (Bloomsbury Press, co-authored with Thomas BW Bailey) was recently published to critical acclaim. What Mykel Boyd and seah (Chelsea Heikes) have in common when forming their collaborative artist group, post doom romance, is a keen eye and ear for textures. In both sound and image, we have been solo artists working both in the music industry and the fine arts world. Together, producing sound, video, and still image compositions that are sensitively layered and textural. Our aesthetic is such that we do not heavy-handedly depict. Rather, we ruminate together in the feeling space of both literary and physical spaces, building our aural and visual language through subtle layering of manipulated field recordings.
