CLEAT Series: Curious Theatre Branch, Sam Clapp, Stephan Moore

Our final CLEAT Series of the year features the three curators who make this whole series happen month after month, Stephan Moore, Matt Test, and Sam Clapp. We’re incredibly thankful for all the work they put into our Elastic community and the amazing artists they’ve brought through our space. The 16-channel speaker system is so unique as we want it to be as accessible as possible with as little “gate” as we can. If you want to use this system, reach out to us and we’ll try and make it happen. It’s been a beautiful year of spatial audio at Elastic Arts.

Series curator Matt Test has been planning on bringing an element of theater into the mix with the Chicago Laboratory of Electro-acoustic Theater for some time now. He has brought together a selection of artists from The Curious Theater Branch to present new work, including Jayita Bhattacharya, Chris Bower, Jenny Magnus, Matt Test, and Vicki Walden. Co-curator Sam Clapp will premier a new film that incorporates the 16-channel system, and series founder / CLEAT system creator Stephan Moore has prepared a new piece titled Grater>Than. This will be a great night. Join us!

The Curious Theatre Branch, at 35 one of Chicago’s original fringe theatre companies, presents an evening of short dramaturgical pieces for the CLEAT space. A spiritual Sequel to 2019’s CURIOUS EATS (ElectroAcousticTheatreSymposium), co-organized by Curious and CLEAT, this presentation looks at new dramaturgical possibilities in a sonic space. Works by Jayita Bhattacharya, Chris Bower, Jenny Magnus, Matt Test, and Vicki Walden

Bliss Point 2 is a movie by Sam Clapp, an artist and arts worker living in Chicago.

"Grater>Than" is new work made for tonight's performance. It is a short autobiographical vignette about falling in love with a small, squeaky, handheld kitchen device. Stephan Moore is a sound artist who lives in Chicago. He likes making noises with objects and writing programs in Max to manipulate those sounds, among other things. He is one-third of the CLEAT curatorial team.
