AFROFUTURIST WEEKEND 11: Mike monford j dilla tribute; Aquil ‘Aq’ Charlton hip hop panel

On Saturday, October 3, AfroFuturist Weekend 11 comes to its home base, Logan Square’s Elastic Arts, for an evening celebrating hip hop’s history and future.

At 5 PM, 2026 Dark Matter Resident Aquil “AQ” Charlton will lead a panel of voices in hip hop, Lyrical Miracles: Rap Artists, Craft, and Culture.

Reedist and composer Mike Monford and his band present a special tribute to legendary Detroit producer J Dilla. In addition to performing music by J Dilla, Monford is composing new work inspired by Dilla’s groundbreaking musical legacy, extending that influence through his own distinctive approach to jazz and improvisation.
