On Saturday, October 3, AfroFuturist Weekend 11 comes to its home base, Logan Square’s Elastic Arts, for an evening celebrating hip hop’s history and future.
5 PM: 2026 Dark Matter Resident Aquil “AQ” Charlton will lead a panel of voices in hip hop, Lyrical Miracles: Rap Artists, Craft, and Culture.
9 PM: Reedist and composer Mike Monford and his band present a special tribute to legendary Detroit producer J Dilla. In addition to performing music by J Dilla, Monford is composing new work inspired by Dilla’s groundbreaking musical legacy, extending that influence through his own distinctive approach to jazz and improvisation.
