In honor of Juneteenth and as part of the Dark Matter Residency, Angel Bat Dawid has mentored two youth composers who have created new works in honor of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Eileen Southern's seminal anthology _The Music of Black Americans, A History_. Professor Emerita of Music and Afro-American Studies at Harvard University, Southern founded and edited the journal The Black Perspective in Music in 1973. Her master work was the first (and still one of the best) rigorous scholarly historical works on the full breadth of African American music in the United States. Young composers Rayna Golding and Mahari Ajani-Collier have created two multi-movement works in her honor.
Dark Matter Residents Justy and Olula Negra will perform Justy's _Tigress and Tweed_.
The afternoon will also feature performances by DJ Oui Ennui, and puppeteer Sam Lewis.
