ABOUT THE MUSICIANS
STEPHAN HALUSKA :
Stephan Haluska is a Cleveland-based harp player, improviser, and composer. Viewing the harp as a frequently misunderstood and unrepresented instrument in contemporary music, he draws from the instrument’s unique textural, percussive, physical, and kinetic qualities, while rejecting conventional modes of playing in favor of finding new ways to expand his sound palette. Stephan plays with an advanced vocabulary of extended techniques and preparations, which include the use of various tools, materials, and gadgetry and incorporates interdisciplinary elements of found object, collage, poetry, sound art, movement, and performance art into his artistic practices.
LILY FINNEGAN QUARTET:
This new quartet of improvisors debuts at Elastic Art's legendary Thursday series. This band was put together by drummer Lily Finnegan with the key thought in mind “who represents the range of style and sound in Chicago improvised music?” Ed Wilkerson Jr., Nick Macri, and Fred Jackson Jr. were the first musicians that came to her mind as key players in Chicago’s unique, groundbreaking underground community. Plurality of sound and background come together as one unit for their first show.
