Detroit-based composer, trumpet player, and electronic musician Derek Worthington brings his “Lossy Codecs” improvisation system to Chicago. The system involves mapping the evolution of multiple musical parameters over time, and is utilized both in pre-written and real-time compositions. To direct the ensemble, Worthington uses an interface he has programmed that serves as a dynamic graphic score, projected to television screens for the performers to see. This performance will feature a number of Chicago's most creative improvising musicians.
