Metafauna & Rubin/Heinemann/Sowa$10Tonight's performance showcases two ensembles that make use of acoustic instruments and live electronic sound processing.
SET 1: METAFAUNA
Dan Hansen – guitar
Erica Miller – cello
Ben Zucker – vibraphone/trumpet
Anna Munzesheimer – vocals
Metafauna is an amorphous animal entity comprised of the human beings that form Metafauna. Through co-composition and free improvisation, it seeks to transgress musical definition and genre. Metafauna is created using vocals, cello, guitar, vibraphone, trumpet, found objects, and other noisemakers.
SET 2: RUBIN/HEINEMANN/SOWA
Scott Rubin – viola, electronics
Jakob Heinemann – bass
Erik Sowa – drums
The Heinemann / Rubin / Sowa trio explores the acoustic and unamplified possibilities of the viola, bass, and drums in spaces that echo their natural acoustic resonances. Their musical directions range from groove-based to free meter improvisations while exploring different soundscapes. Rubin’s live electronics use motion sensor data recorded by dancers to produce uncanny reconfigured reflections of the live sound, recontextualizing the relationships between the performers and their musical objects.
