Workshop on Pauline Oliveros and Sonic Meditations

Amanda Kraus and Kate Walsh present a workshop about Pauline Oliveros, who was a composer, performer, humanitarian and influential thinker and music maker. Her career spanned fifty years of boundary dissolving music making. In the 1960's she influenced American music profoundly through her work with improvisation, meditation, electronic music, myth and ritual.

This workshop will explore the basics of Pauline’s philosophy about sound improvisation and deep listening, and as a group, we will perform pieces together from Oliveros’s Sonic Meditations, sound exercises described as “recipes for listening”, using our breath, voices, and bodies. Participation is encouraged and optional. There will be time for debriefing, and tea and snacks! All folks and levels of experience welcome. Listen and improvise with us!
