Transference Fest 2019: Night One$15 – $25This May 24th and 25th, WNUR will be sponsoring Transference Fest, a weekend-long experimental music festival hosted at Elastic Arts. A strong lineup of out-of-town performers have been invited to collaborate with local Chicago acts, and vice-versa, generating a uniquely experimental musicianʼs space that will serve as a physical manifestation of what WNUR seeks to do on the air. Transference Fest will join both regional and international artists for two nights of collaborations and provocative performances that reflect Chicago's rich and internationally heralded tradition in sound and music experimentation. As a community inspired event, Transference Fest is an expression of our shared commitment to under–represented artists and the exhibition of their work without constraint.
Set times are estimates, official set times TBD
8PM-9PM: Tallulah Bankheist – Kicking off night one is an experimental electronic and noise musician, the mastermind behind Chicago cassette label Bodymilk Tapes, and a beloved WNUR alum. Prepare to hear her absolutely shred on Friday.
9PM-10PM: Mukqs & Sharkula – Mukqs, founder of the Chicago experimental record label Hausu Mountain and WNUR alum, first collaborated with Chicago MC Sharkula in February, producing spacey hip-hop tracks that are fun and heavy. This collab fully embodies Hausu Mountain’s mission of creating “music as a force to both challenge listeners and entertain them in equal measure.”
10PM: Gun Outfit (and friends) – Gun Outfit, hailing from the west coast, blend echoic Americana and atmospheric pop, generating a sound that carries the weight of the Western sky without sacrificing sentimental levity. For Transference, they have crafted a program with local designers that will showcase a unique visual identity in tandem with a sonic one.
