    Pachanka First Fridays: Juan Dies & Las Manzanitas Mexican Tragic Ballads, Storytelling and Rancheras

Juan Dies
Juan Díes is a folklorist, ethnomusicologist and co-founder of the award winning Sones de Mexico Ensemble. In this rare solo appearance, he will share his personal repertoire of corridos, Mexican tragic ballads, with some storytelling and ranchera songs on his guitar.

Las Manzanitas
Las Manzanitas perform and preserve the classic musical style of Mexico called norteñas or rancheras. The all female trio sing and play using traditional instruments of son jarocho, capturing the distinctive harmonies and catchy rhythms of these songs to invoke the nostalgia of family gatherings from back home. Norteñas or rancheras, are a multi-generational soundtrack for anyone who grew up in a musical home in México or Latin America.
