Adam Goodwin & Penelope G., Adams/Dorr/Foley & Jon Jackson$10Improvising bass & violin duo Adam Goodwin & Penelope G. explore floating overtones, drones and abstract soundscapes. The evening will also feature local trio Adams/Dorr/Foley and solo percussionist Jon Jackson
Adam Goodwin (double bass, TX) and Penelope G. (violin, Greece) met in Berlin in 2013 and have collaborated in numerous projects together since that time, including the Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra, Reverse Mode, Murmur Collective and Nawa Ensemble, and are now embarking on their first tour as a duo. In this combination, they perform original compositions which mix together many different influences and styles, ranging from contemporary classical music to harsh noise, Greek music to rock. Their collective compositions feature large amounts of improvisation, which are placed between strictly composed material, resulting in a cohesive and unified sound that is not easily placed into any one specific idiom or category, but explores a world of floating overtones, drones and abstract soundscapes.
Penelope G. is a Greek violinist currently living in Berlin. She studied classical violin and in more recent years, her musical activities have expanded to include a wide range of genres and aesthetic approaches, including traditional greek and middle eastern modal music, as well as contemporary compositions and free improvisation. She is member of the groups Reverse Mode, Nawa Ensemble and Kompania.
Adam Goodwin is a Texan double bassist, composer, and visual artist. He engages in a wide spectrum of artistic activity that involves frequent collaboration with performers, composers, sound artists, choreographers, dancers and visual artists. As composer and interpreter, he strives to obliterate the false pretenses that tend to surround contemporary art world, and return to a primordial mode of expression which places the highest priority on the individuality of the performer and the spontaneity of each unique moment.
