Elastic Mashups!



FESTIVAL OF EVERYDAY : avant jazz, spoken word, improvised electronics, poetry, songwriters, video, contemporary music, performance, and puppetry

Over 3 days (May 15th-17th), we’re showcasing some of the many diverse artists, presenters and organizations we’ve been working with, some for over 15 years.

Thursday 5/15
features the Thursday Night Jazz and Improvised Music Series with Ken Vandermark’s newest large band project, Audio One, returning to Elastic in preparation for a festival appearance at the Festival International de Musique Actuelle in Quebec the following weekend.  Saxophonist Dave Rempis series has been presenting this series with Elastic for 12 years this spring.

Friday 5/16

features Real Talk Live organizers and performers, who’ve been curating a monthly literary, performance, and open mic series at Elastic since 2011, as well as Homeroom, which has been presenting singer/songwriters and other events at Elastic regularly since 2008.  Elastic co-founder and Hip Hop Series curator Sam “samiam” Lewis will be DJing throughout the night.

Readings/Performance by Emily Rose, Janna Sobel, Reggie Eldridge, J.W. Basilo.  Live Music by Donna Polydoros, Tiny Fireflies.

Saturday 5/17

features an Elastro electro/acoustic performance of sound + video, a set of music by Access Contemporary Music‘s Seth Boustead, and shadow puppetry by Seabeast Puppet Company.  Started in 2003 by Elastic co-founder Paul Giallorenzo, the Elastro Electro/Acoustic series presents experimental/improvised/electroacoustic sound (and video) monthly, co-curated by Daniel Wyche since Fall 2013.  Access Contemporary Music began a program at Elastic of teaching young piano students from the neighborhood 2-3 days a week about a year ago, and this is their first performance at Elastic.  One of our newer collaborations is with Seabeast Puppet Company, which recently had their 2nd performance at Elastic this past March.

Live music by MT Coast, Seth Boustead + David Keller, Daniel Wyche + Michael Nicosia, live visuals by Rae Whitlock, shadow puppetry by Seabeast Puppet Company.
