The Culture Coach Traveling Stage is a pop-up stage that is programmed to present arts and cultural performances in non-traditional spaces. It has been serving Chicago’s neighborhoods since 2012 as part of the Park District’s Night Out in the Parks program and the DCASE City Markets, as well as nonprofits that rent it for their own use. The mission of the Culture Coach is to bring live music and the arts to our city’s neighborhoods so that all are able to participate as audience or performers in these activities without regard to economic status or where they live. The Coach is owned by Kuumba Renaissance and programmed by Elastic Arts Foundation in conjunction with nonprofits, community organizations, and the City of Chicago. We produce some 30 to 40 concerts each year in various neighborhood parks, farmers markets, and other outdoor events across the city, bringing free, family friendly music concerts, interactive drum circles, and break-dancing workshops to areas of the city that historically have lower access to cultural programming.
